Building & Construction+
Lightweight Concrete and Block Production: Used to manufacture lightweight building elements, including pumice blocks and masonry blocks, that reduce the dead load of structures.
Thermal and Acoustic Insulation: Its porous structure makes it a natural insulating material for external wall insulation, insulating renders and screed mortars.
Cement Industry: Its pozzolanic properties allow it to serve as a cement additive, improving durability while reducing costs.
Agriculture & Landscaping+
Soilless Cultivation (Hydroponics): Its water retention and aeration properties make it a root-zone medium for greenhouse cultivation.
Soil Conditioner: Mixed into heavy soils to loosen their structure, improve drainage and allow oxygen to reach roots.
Landscape Design: Its natural colour and natural appearance make it suitable for gardens, pathways, pot bases and decorative ground coverings.
Chemical Industry+
Water and Liquid Filtration: Its highly porous internal structure acts as a filtration medium in industrial wastewater treatment and filter systems.
Hazardous Liquid Absorbent: Used as an absorbent for chemical leaks and oil spills because of its ability to trap liquids rapidly.
Paint Industry+
Finely ground pumice powder is widely used as a high-performance functional filler in the paint industry.
Colour and Mineral Filler: The natural shade and mineral structure of pumice can be considered as a coloured mineral filler in suitable paint and decorative coating formulations. Colour compatibility and performance should be tested for the intended formulation.
Matting and Low Gloss: The glassy, porous structure of finely ground pumice scatters light within the paint film, making it an effective matting agent in low-gloss and flat paint formulations.
Mechanical Strength and Crack Resistance: Pumice particles reinforce paint films. In exterior paints and industrial coatings, they improve resistance to cracking, blistering and peeling, as well as rub resistance, washability and abrasion resistance.
Special Coatings and Floor Paints: Coarser granules can be incorporated into floor paints and specialist systems to provide texture and friction on pool surrounds, decks and other surfaces requiring slip resistance.
Roads & Infrastructure+
Anti-Slip Material: Used on snowy and icy roads in winter, either instead of salt or alongside it, to improve traction.
Road Fill Material: Used as sub-base and fill on weak ground, and as an alternative mineral aggregate in ground improvement and drainage applications.
